- 1970- The Wind Engineering research program is established as the Institute for Disaster Research (IDR).
- 1976- The first International Tornado Symposium is held to discuss tornadoes and wind hazards.
- 1985- 5th U.S. National Conference in Wind Engineering is held in Lubbock, Texas.
- 2003- The 11th International Conference on Wind Engineering is held in Lubbock, Texas. Dr. Andy Swift becomes the new Director of WISE.
- 2011- A Bachelor’s degree in Wind Energy is launched at TTU.
- 2012- The National Wind Institute (NWI) at TTU was established.
